Welcome to the JSU Mesoscale Meteorology Blog!

Mesoscale processes are always present in the lower troposphere, whether appearing as readily identified mesoscale phenomena or as smaller scale structures within synoptic weather systems. During recent winter weather events in Mississippi, mesoscale variations have been important in modulating the peripheries of significant snow and ice accumulation. On the smaller end of the mesoscale, the potential for enhanced icing on some bridge and interstate flyover sites is a difficult problem.

So how do the physical equations and types of instability relate to the weather systems that we've seen lately? You might want to consider this afternoon's visible satellite image.
